The Martha Milburn Bird Sanctuary

Martha Milburn’s family roots were sunk deep into Boone County soil and she was an avid and passionate naturalist.  She was one of the founding members of Harrison’s Disorganized Bird Club and also dedicated to the preservation of Baker Prairie itself.

When she passed away, she dedicated the tract of land immediately adjacent to Baker Prairie which has now become the Martha Milburn Bird Sanctuary, offering important habitat to the many birds which call the prairie and surrounding areas home.

Friends of Baker Prairie have plans to construct a trail which will allow those with an interest in birds and nature in general access to this beautiful tract of land dedicated by one of Boone County’s most passionate advocates for nature.
